VCU Bulletin Requirement Changes & Additions
On May 22, 2024, under the recommendations of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) with review by the Web Advisory Council, the following updates have been made to the Content (5) requirements:
- Requirement 5.9 was renamed from “Course Information” to “Bulletin Information” and updated to allow academic course and program information so long as it is automatically pulled from the VCU Bulletin.
- A new Content, Bulletin Statement (5.10) requirement was added, requiring a statement linking to the VCU Bulletin to accompany information showcasing, supplementing, and/or summarizing academic course and program information.
- The old “Third Party iFrames” requirement was changed from 5.10 to 5.11.
Bulletin Information
The previous 5.9 requirement forbade duplication of information from the VCU Bulletin. This was not only limiting in what degree/curriculum information websites could showcase, but confusing considering there are multiple ways to pull information directly and automatically from the VCU Bulletin, including plugins in the university CMS which the Web Services team provides. So long as this information is automatically pulled from the VCU Bulletin, the risk of the information getting out of sync is mitigated.
Bulletin Statement
All pages showcasing, supplementing, and/or summarizing academic course and program information must now include a standardized statement. This ensures that users know about the VCU Bulletin and that it’s the canonical source for the information it accompanies. Additionally, the statement will help mitigate risks related to showcasing out of date or slightly incorrect information.
